Hello, and welcome to my Sunny Raw Kitchen!
I named first my blog and now this website, not so much after my kitchen per se, as for the beautiful, delicious, sun-filled creations that come out of it. In his book “Sunfood Cuisine”, Frederic Patenaude refers to natural, raw and unprocessed foods as “sunfoods”. To me, it perfectly captures the essence of raw: food which still retains its life force by remaining uncooked, and, therefore full of the Sun’s energy, without which Life couldn’t be sustained on earth.
My name is Carmella Soleil (and in case you don’t already know, ‘soleil’ happens to mean ‘sun’ in French!) I’ve been creating and eating mostly raw foods for over a decade now and I feel sure they have greatly contributed to my ongoing transformation, not only at the physical level but in my entire way of being. In fact, it’s hard for me not to think of who I used to be before as a different person altogether. You can find out more about my journey to health and even see some of my ‘Before’ and ‘After’ photos in ‘My Health Journey’ section.
For several years I ate a very simple high raw diet. Getting a computer and surfing the Internet enabled a whole new experimental culinary phase for me. I never even dreamed that you could be so creative with raw foods! In 2007 I started my Sunny Raw Kitchen blog as a medium to share my personal raw journey, what I’ve been learning along the way as well as the delicious recipes to come out of my raw kitchen. What I didn’t expect back then was that this small step was to lead to my making a living doing what I love to do: playing with food and assisting others on their own healing journeys. I feel so very blessed for such an opportunity!
Almost 6 years later here I am launching my new Sunny Raw Kitchen website. “Why now,” you ask? I’m still not entirely certain of the answer to that. All I can say is that I suddenly began to get small hints from Life that the time had come for me to take this next step. As I’ve been working closely on developing this website with my wonderful designer (Boti, you’re the BEST!!!) it has become increasingly clearer how much bringing everything under a single roof makes sense. You see, over the years I’ve shared countless anecdotes and discoveries and a few hundred recipes, which are buried in my blog’s archives. This new website will make it soooo much easier for you to browse through and/or locate the material. With just a few clicks you can now find helpful articles and techniques, learn more details about my various recipe books and upcoming events, discover which appliances and products by other raw chefs I recommend and trust, check out my free recipes, videos and food pics, and of course, read my latest blog entries.
I want my Sunny Raw Kitchen to be an inspiring and cozy place to share and learn about raw foods. My intention is to approach the raw food diet, as everything else in my life, for that matter, with my heart, rather than my head. I eat raw because it makes me feel great, and I just LOVE its vibrant intensity.
You’ll notice that I don’t get much into the more technical aspects of how the raw vegan diet is good for you and why. I figure there’s plenty of info available on the Net already and, quite frankly, it’s a little too “heady” for me.
But let’s get back to why I started my Sunny Raw Kitchen…
To put it very simply, I love writing and I love LOVE creating raw food delights, but most of all, there’s nothing I enjoy as much as sharing!
So don’t just stand there by the door! Please come on in and make yourself at home in my Sunny Raw Kitchen!
